Little did owners Betsy Alger and Jim Black know that when they lovingly transformed a historic industrial building into The Frog and The Peach, it would become one of the “best restaurants in New Jersey”(AOL CityGuide). As pioneers in the redevelopment and subsequent renaissance of downtown New Brunswick in 1983, they shared a vision of what Hiram Square could be one day.

With that in mind, they carefully gutted and renovated the space to create a multi-leveled contemporary restaurant that reflected the spirit of its industrial roots. Painted brick walls, glass block windows, exposed duct work and metal hand rails on the staircases are among the "factory design motif" elements found at The Frog and The Peach. Softening the industrial effect is the turn-of-the-century oak bar which was rescued from a defunct tavern on the Brooklyn waterfront and lovingly restored. In the early 1900's, breweries would give patrons a piece of furniture as an incentive to carry their products. Ours is believed to be such a brewery issue bar.

The restaurant achieves its inviting warmth by carving out distinctive, intimate spaces on the three levels, using lighting to showcase its architectural elements and set a stylish tone. A unique collection of original paintings, contemporary quilts and vintage framed Vogue Magazine covers discovered in the attic during renovation enliven the walls.

Silver Anniversary Alumni Chefs Wine Dinner

July 18, 2008: A very special evening celebrating 25 years of hot pans, cool cocktails and fine wines, over 100 seasonal menu changes, and the many talented people who have worked to help make the F&P a restaurant we are immensely proud of over this quarter century. Proceeds from the event were donated to the New Brunswick Ronald McDonald House. A fabulous time was had by all!
