CAMPANIA, BASILICATA, PUGLIA
Not so long ago, the wines of southern Italy, with a very few exceptions, were thought to be of only local interest. When one thought of the great wines of the peninsula, you looked further north: Chianti, Barolo, Amarone.
Today, all that has changed. There are truly marvelous wines being made all over the south, the equal of anything anywhere. Fascinating indigenous grapes, of which there are hundreds, have gained the respect they deserve. Vineyards that phylloxera, war, depression and emigration had left in ruin have been rediscovered and re-invigorated. The Greeks, the Romans and the monks all thought that these vineyards, like those that produced the Falernum of the classical world, were worth treasuring. Today they are blossoming again with Falanghina, Greco, Aglianico.
Aglianico among the reds is now recognized as equal in potential to the Nebbiolo of Barolo or to the Tuscan Sangiovese. Enterprising winemakers now search out the old vines, some 100 years old or more, that dot the landscape of the best growing areas. Many have been trained in the ancient canopied trellis method indigenous to the region. (seen in the photo above)
It almost goes without saying that this is home to one of the world’s most loved and respected cuisines. Bruce has created a menu inspired by these products, techniques and history.

For the summer on Sunday nights only, we will be offering our Burger and Bar Pies in the dining room.
Usually available just for lunch or at the bar, they both have quite a following.
With a hand-crafted draft beer or a hearty glass of red, it makes a perfect way to top off your weekend.
And two more things:
1. Sunday nights all year long, bottles from our wine list are 1/3 off (a few exceptions apply)
2. If you like to bring your own, on Sundays the corkage fee is waived
